#4213: From New Sounds Live Silent Films 2019

New Sounds | Mar 6, 2019

From the New Sounds Live concert series, recorded at Brookfield Place, listen to new music for silent films: Nosferatu and The Kid from the 2019 season.

Hear new music for one of the creepiest vampire films ever made - the classic silent film, Nosferatu. The Irish sibling composers Irene and Linda Buckley have written a new electroacoustic score – with found sounds from the outdoors, wolves, and the voices of both Buckleys- to accompany a beautiful new restored version of F.W. Murnau's influential horror film. Hear the American premiere of this music for the film – the classic vampire tale and real estate deal gone wrong.

Then, listen to guitar music by Marc Ribot for Charlie Chaplin’s The Kid. Marc Ribot has played rock with Elvis Costello, downtown jazz with John Zorn, and the experimental growly folk-pop-rock of Tom Waits. He’s played Haitian classical guitar music, written an album of agitated protest songs, and now, for this score – listen to just Marc Ribot and his acoustic guitar.
