#4230: New Sounds Live with Wye Oak and the Brooklyn Youth Chorus
From the 2019 New Sounds Live/Ecstatic Music Festival Concerts, the Brooklyn Youth Chorus performs music by the band Wye Oak, along with new work by Owen Pallett, recorded at Merkin Hall.
The Grammy-winning Brooklyn Youth Chorus, led by Dianne Berkun Menaker, has collaborated with classical composers and indie rockers, and been featured in the new CHANEL Pharrell Collection. They've worked with Bryce Dessner, who is both a classical composer and a guitarist with the rock band The National, and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Caroline Shaw, as well as an entire project of newly commissioned works, Silent Voices.
For this New Sounds, hear the Brooklyn Youth Chorus performing arrangements of existing tunes by the Baltimore-born duo Wye Oak, from their 2018 album The Louder I Call, the Faster it Runs, along with brand-new songs written for the collaboration. Plus, listen to new music by composer Owen Pallett – a “fourteen-minute nightmare” based on The Odyssey, entitled “Cyclops”.
