Maria Joao Pires plays the Fantasie-Impromptu, while Evgeny Kissin performs the Sonata No. 3 this evening. Wonderful performances each, of wonderful music! The Jerusalem String Quartet recently released their version of Schubert's "Lark" Quartet, which takes flight under their skilled hands. Bach's Prelude and Fugue in B-flat gets transcribed and transformed by Leigh Howard Stevens as he presents the work on his marimba. Claudio Monteverdi's "Return of Ulysses to his Homeland" receives a magical multimedia-with-puppets rendition at the John Jay Theater of Lincoln Center, starting tomorrow, March 2. But you can hear excerpts from a more conventional version this evening; Rene Jacobs conducts the Concerto Vocale and a number of excellent soloists.
