Spring is Here

Evening Music | May 6, 2010
Despite all that snow still on the ground, "The Winter's Passed," or so Wayne Barlow's work for oboe and orchestra tells us. After all, tomorrow is the vernal equinox! J. Strauss II's "Voices of Spring" celebrates the incoming season; Maj Sonstevold's "Summer Days by the Sea" looks forward to even sunnier times and climes; and Mary Howe's "Spring Pastoral" reaffirms our long-awaited escape from sleet and snow. In a more traditional vein, we hear the Beaux Arts Trio essay the Mendelssohn Piano Trio No. 2. You can hear the group live at the Metropolitan Museum's Grace Rainey Rogers Auditorium on Saturday, March 27, performing Schubert, Ravel, and Brahms.
