From Jon Hassell’s trumpet and harmonizer, to the sax of Jack Wyllie in Paradise Cinema, the mutanttrumpet of Ben Neill, and the big sky tuba of Tom Heasley, marvel at the sounds of trumpets, saxes, and tuba that might be situated in a ‘fourth world’.
Listen to processed sax and keyboard drone from Paradise Cinema, which is multi-instrumentalist Jack Wyllie (of Portico Quartet/Szun Waves), in collaboration with mbalax percussionists Khadim Mbaye (saba drums) and Tons Sambe (tama drums0, recorded in Dakar, Senegal. There’s also the sound of processed trumpet in the ‘Fourth World’ music of Jon Hassell, in collaboration with Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois. Hassell uses a harmonizer – which makes it sound like three trumpets are playing together – along with other electronic techniques.
