Led Zeppelin Turned Classical

Evening Music | May 6, 2010
If you’d like to hear a Led Zeppelin tune turned into a “classical” work for guitar quartet, stay tuned. Ian Krouse’s “Labyrinth” is based on Led Zeppelin’s “Friends.” It rocks!
Franz Schubert’s Symphony No. 2 graces our second hour in a carefully crafted performance by the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, conducted by Claudio Abbado, who undertook his cycle of Schubert symphony recordings only after exhaustive research on inconsistencies among the various editions.

It is baritone Thomas Hampson’s 50th birthday, and we can’t resist bringing you a lot of music that displays the wonderful voice and technique of this American-born singer. We hear songs by Schubert, Stephen Foster, Berlioz, Rorem, and Ives, and the entire Maurice Duruflé Requiem, in which Hampson is joined by mezzo Anne Sofie von Otter; Michel Plasson conducts the Orchestre du Capitole de Toulouse.
