There’s music dealing with nature and the natural world from vocalist/composer Meredith Monk, Taiwanese-German composer Floating Spectrum, Norwegians Marja Mortensson and Daniel Herskedal, Polish cellist Resina, and American clarinetist, composer, and professor David Rothenberg.
Listen to the latest from vocalist and composer, and multi-disciplinary artist Meredith Monk, whose work unites music, dance, film, and theatre. Listen to her music and theatre piece On Behalf of Nature, a response to climate change, and a preview of her latest work Indra's Net, the third work in Monk’s trilogy dedicated to our relationship with the natural world. The title refers to a tale of Indra’s jewels from Buddhism, and serves as a metaphor for the interbeing of all things.
Then, listen to nature-themed music by Taiwan-born, Berlin-based composer and audio technologist, Mei-Fang Liau who records as Floating Spectrum. There’s also music from Norway by Sámi singer Marja Mortensson, along with a drone and groove by tuba player Daniel Herskedal, together with a string quartet on the work, “A Storm Is Rising.” Plus, music by Warsaw-based cellist Karolina Rec, who records as Resina, which imitates natural elements like water’s movement, flocks of birds, and the stirring of the forest.
