Both Randall Woolf's "Dancétudes" (1983) and his expanded version "New Dancétudes" (1988) re-imagine the stately forms of Baroque dance music as wild, expansive études for solo piano. "Dancétudes" draws a comparison with modern forms as well, introducing a rag and shuffle into the mix. We hear it tonight from contemporary piano specialist Kathleen Supové.
