Hear newly released music in and around the month of June. Listen to the Los Angeles-based music collective Wild Up and their second album in a seven-volume anthology celebrating the work of 20th century American composer, Julius Eastman. Then hear Dutch musician Felbm, known for his acoustic, lo-fi cassette series. In his newest entry, Elements of Nature, he combines his usual acoustic guitar and percussion with flute, saxophone and cello. You’ll also hear the traditional mixed with the electronic in Super Parquet’s new album Couteau / Haute Forme. The record combines electronics with bagpipes, the banjo, and other traditional instruments from the band’s home region of Auvergne, France.
Plus, listen to a piece off of Esmerine’s new album, Everything Was Forever Until It Was No More. Conceived just before the pandemic, this album was recorded in between lockdown waves in the band member's homes and cellist Rebecca Foon’s converted barn. Then, "Echo of Wings" features cellist Julia Kent many times over as she layers recordings of her cello over themselves to create a powerful wave of sound.
Void Patrol is a new collaboration between saxophonist Colin Stetson, multi-instrumentalist Elliott Sharp, drummer Billy Martin, and keyboard percussionist Payton MacDonald. They describe the sound of their debut album as “jazz dronecore funk metal.” Listen to the song "Hadar" off of the album. Group Listening’s Clarinet & Piano: Selected Works, Vol. 2 features reworkings of music by Robbie Basho, Laraaji, Syrinx, and more.
