#4735, David Cieri, The Passion of Joan of Arc, Live at Brookfield Place
Hear new music for silent film by composer David Cieri with his music for Carl Th. Dreyer’s 1928 silent film La Passion de Jeanne d’Arc. Joan of Arc is said to have heard voices – strange, unearthly voices. So Cieri’s score, by turns visceral and transcendent, includes Sardinian vocal quartet Tenores de Aterúe. Best known for his music for various Ken Burns films, among his many film scores, Cieri recently completed a major new work for carillon bells. The music was recorded remotely at Brookfield Place in early 2023.
Ensemble: David Cieri (piano), Sam Ospovat (drums), Mike Brown (double bass), Trina Basu (violin), Chris Rodriguez (bagpipes), Shazad Ismaily (electronics), Tenores de Aterúe: Avery Book, Gideon Crevoshay, Carl Linich, Doug Paisley (vocals).
