#4771, of Love / of time, Live at Merkin Hall

New Sounds | Aug 5, 2024

Hear of Love / of time, a concert program presented by Multi-Grammy nominated violinist-composer Curtis Stewart, recorded live at Kaufman Music Center Merkin Hall in June 2023. The program features selections from his 2023 album, of Love. The album was dedicated to his mother, Elektra Kurtis-Stewart, who died of brain cancer in 2021. It was recorded in her Upper West Side apartment, where Curtis was raised and became her primary caretaker at the end of her life. The 20 work collection employs strings, electronics, and voice to create a beautiful and complex tribute to both his mother and his journey through grief.

In addition to the live performances from of Love., including a world premiere of "Embrace", you’ll hear "KNIGHT Music". This piece is Curtis’s arrangement of music from Joseph Bologne’s Violin Concerto No. 9. Throughout the show, John joins Curtis onstage to talk through his process and get some insight into the music.

With Curtis on the stage that night were pianist and Kaufman Music Center Artist-in-Residence Aaron Diehl, the Harlem Quartet, violin-vox-freestyle composition artist Mazz Swift, The Next Festival of Emerging Artists, and musicians from Kaufman Music Center’s Special Music School. - Laura Boyman
