#4911 Voices in Harmony?

New Sounds | Aug 8, 2024

They say three’s a crowd but on this episode of New Sounds three means harmony: beautiful soul-stirring harmony and harmonies you might not expect.

Hear music from Ireland, Bhutan, The Republic of Georgia, the state of Georgia, South Africa, Taian, and Bhutan. First hear the Irish group Lankum and their hair raising rendition of "Rocky Road to Dublin" perfectly paired with a drone and a cappella harmony.

Next, listen to the Bhutanese singers performing traditional music from the mountains of Bhutan. Their record, Your Face Is Like the Moon, Your Eyes Are Stars, features otherworldly homophonic singing heard in their piece, "The Day You Were Born".

Plus, prepare for the quiet, dark, and mournful harmonies from pieces like "Bunun Tuza", performed by cellist David Darling and the Wulu Bunun. The Irish band Landless sings the Slovakian folk tune "Ej Husari" as well as "My Lagan Love". - David Norville
