There’s music for Sandbox Percussion by American composer Michael Torke, work by Angélica Negrón, Jessica Meyer, and Andrew Norman, along with work from Ireland’s Crash Ensemble by Donnacha Dennehy,

American composer Michael Torke has opted for a combination of drums and mallet percussion (vibraphone and marimba) in his organic work, BLOOM, for the quartet Sandbox Percussion. The interlocking rhythms of tom toms and bongos create a groove for the vibes and marimbas to burst forth from the rest of the drums, much like shoots of plants pushing through dirt to erupt in blooms (composer’s program notes).
Sandbox Percussion presents Michael Torke's BLOOM at the New School on Dec. 11 at 7:30PM.

There’s also music from Ireland’s Crash Ensemble, and music by one of their co-founders, the now Princeton-based Irish composer Donnacha Dennehy. Also, hear electroacoustic music by Puerto Rican composer/performer/educator Angélica Negrón for the cellist Nick Photinos (a founding member of Chicago new music ensemble Eighth Blackbird), from his excellent recent record, Petits Artéfacts.
