#2029: Program #2029
New Sounds | May 24, 2010
The Swiss-born singer, Susanne Abbuehl, made her ECM debut this year with "April," a collection of elliptical treatments of e.e. cummings's poetry alongside doleful arrangements of tunes by Carla Bley. Backed by piano, clarinet, and drums, Abbuehl offers a sound that is both melancholic and romantic, displaying a crystalline diction and wistful delivery. We hear selections from this important album, as well as a gem ("Sun In My Mouth") from Björk's recent album Vespertine.
