#2033: Program #2033

New Sounds | May 24, 2010
Kronos's Nuevo, a panorama of south-of-the-border music, is not only the quartet's most adventurous outing to date, but among the most striking discs of 2002. As we hear on this edition of New Sounds, the disc is striking not only for its over-amped, firecracker sonics but the exhilarating arrangements, mostly by composer Oslvaldo Golijov. Highlights include a cocktail pop tune by Esquivel, a chamber arrangement of Revueltas's sprawling "Sensemaya," and "12/12," perhaps the wildest cut, featuring sirens, parade noises, a melancholy tune, and blaring radios - all bound together by Rock en Espanol heroes Cafe Tacuba.
