Though much of Erik Satie's music remains little known beyond the ranks of experts, the "Trois Gymnopedies pour piano" (1888) for piano are instantly familiar. Indeed, Satie may have been amused by sheer the range of the contexts in which they have since appeared, from jazz-rock fusion arrangements to commercials for mundane consumer products. This edition of New Sounds looks at a variety of modern works inspired by these Impressionistic miniatures, including Brian Agro's "Poems and Preludes," Philip Glass's "Metamorphosis #2," and William Bland's "True and Authentic Gymnopedie."
