New Sounds | May 24, 2010
In what seems like an ever-growing number of composers from the tiny Baltic country of Estonia to win a following in the West, a few composers stand out from the pack. These include Veljo Tormis, who is featured on this edition of New Sounds with several Runo songs (performed as a call and response between a lead singer and a chorus). We also feature a symphony based on traditional Runo songs from the late Lepo Sumera, and works by Arvo Pärt and Erkki-Sven Tüür.
