#2210: Program #2210

New Sounds | May 24, 2010
Usually at this time of the month on New Sounds, we filter through the constant flood of recently-arrived CDs to sample the choicest cuts. Instead, on this program, David Hykes joins John in the studio to celebrate the CD reissue of the groundbreaking work "Hearing Solar Winds". These are the original recordings with the Harmonic Choir, revised, and digitally re-mastered by the composer. The unique space of the resonant Thoronet Abbey amplified the overtones and multiplied the sound of each voice, and the otherworldly-ness of the harmonic chant is pure, refined, and chilling. Incidentally, Hykes and the Harmonic Choir also celebrate the reissue with a concert on Nov. 1 and a workshop on Nov. 2, at the Center For Creative Education.
