Just in time for summer travel season, your car radio could be soon obsolete. Well, not quite - but new smartphone technology is broadening music listening options.

Internet music services like Pandora, Slacker and Last.fm are being tailored by software developers, consumer electronics companies and even automakers to work more seamlessly with car stereo systems. New York Times reporter John R. Quain explains this trend.
