WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

The head of New York City's Taxi and Limousine Commission, Matthew Daus, says he's leaving his post for the private sector.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg made the announcement today during his weekly radio show, saying Daus will remain in the job until his replacement is found.

Daus will also become a distinguished lecturer at the City University of New York's Transportation Research Center.

Daus served two seven-year terms. During his tenure he introduced GPS, credit card processing, and new fuel efficiency rules to the city's more than 13,000 cabs.
