NYPD Requests Federal Funding During Terror Trial

New York, NY —

The NYPD has told the federal government it'll need more money to protect the city during the trial of alleged terrorist Khalid Sheikh Mohammed.

Police commissioner Ray Kelly says the department has sent in a request for federal funding but wouldn't specify how much. He simply said "a lot."

Kelly says during the trial, much of the police force will be busy with its regular duties.

"That means that anything we do has to be done based on overtime because everyone else, under our planning premise, is fully engaged. So we've made that clear to the federal government," Kelly says.

Mohammed and others accused of plotting the 9-11 attacks are set to be tried at a federal court in downtown Manhattan.
