Council Overrides 3 of Bloomberg's Vetoes

The City Council voted overwhelmingly to override three of Mayor Michael Bloomberg's vetoes today. This may be a sign that during the mayor's third term he could face a more independent City Council. Today's veto overrides include the Kingsbridge Armory development plan, the Bronx shopping mall project that the mayor backed, which will not go forward. The council also voted to uphold a five-minute grace period for parking at Muni-Meters. Another vote was in favor of expanding parking privileges for clergy.

The council also voted to name a street after Sean Bell, the unarmed man killed by police who fired 50 shots at his car in 2006. The officers who were charged in the case were acquitted.
