Paterson Unveils Gay Marriage Bill

Governor Paterson unveiled a bill to make New York the fifth state to legalize same sex marriage.
In his announcement, he linked the battle for gay marriage to the equal rights fights of blacks, Jews, the disabled, and women.
Some Republicans criticized the governor for introducing the bill at a time of economic crisis for the state. Republican Assembly Minority Leader Brian Kolb says the governor should be spending his time talking about how he can put New Yorkers back to work.
While the bill has the support of the Assembly, its passage is far from certain in the Senate, where Democrats hold a slim majority.
