Senate Dems Float "Taxi Tax"

Mayor Bloomberg is not taking a position on a proposed 50-cent taxicab surcharge, but says all options should be considered when it comes to bailing out the MTA.
REPORTER: The taxi tax idea is being floated by some State Senate Democrats.
BLOOMBERG: I don’t know how real it is. They have 10 ideas a day, and I don’t think it adds anything for me to publicly criticize. You can only answer the question in the context of what’s a package of things?
REPORTER: Supporters have not said how much money the fee would add to the MTA’s fast-disappearing coffers. Bloomberg said he supports a plan proposed by the State Assembly which would keep the MTA operating by raising payroll taxes and placing tolls on the East River bridges.
The State Senate has rejected bridge tolls and does not appear to have enough votes to approve the payroll tax.
