Charging Drivers Who Cross East and Harlem Rivers

State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver is defending his proposal to add tolls on the East and Harlem River bridges, saying it would keep cars off the road.
He called the MTA the "life blood of the down-state economy" and called on drivers to help keep it affordable.
SILVER: Clearly between column A: service cuts and fare increases, or column B: revenues, column B is the logical choice.
REPORTER: Silver's proposed toll fee would cost the same as a subway ride.
He says he has the endorsement of Richard Ravitch who led a state-appointed commission to come up with a sustainable financing plan for the MTA.
