A-Rod in a Hard Place

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

Alex Rodriguez offered new details about his performance-enhancing drug use, saying his cousin injected him with an over-the-counter substance known as "bollay".

The Yankees third baseman says he got the steroid from the Dominican Republic.

At a packed news conference at the Yankees' spring training facility in Tampa, A-Rod refused to say whether what he did was "cheating."

RODRIGUEZ: I'm here to say I'm sorry. I'm here to say that I wish I had gone to college and had grown up at my own pace. When you're young and stupid, you're young and stupid.

REPORTER: Rodriguez, a three-time American League MVP and baseball's highest-paid player, met the media ten days after Sports Illustrated reported that he tested positive for steroids in 2003.

Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Jose Posada and Andy Pettittee watched from the front row.

Last year, Pettite made his own spring training apology for using steroids.
