Who Will Council Speaker Quinn Endorse for Mayor?

City Council Speaker Christine Quinn says she won't rule out endorsing Mayor Bloomberg for a third term even if the Mayor runs on the Republican line. WNYC's Bob Hennelly reports.

REPORTER: Council Speaker Christine Quinn, a democrat, tells Brian Leher guest host Andrea Bernstein, she hasn't officially decided if she'll support her party or another this November.

BERNSTEIN/QUINN: It sounds like you are leaving the door open for a possible endorsement of mayor Bloomberg? I am going to leave the door open for the person I think is best given the field given the job.

REPORTER: Petitions for the September mayoral primary aren't due until July.

WNYC has already reported Mayor Bloomberg will meet with all five Republican County Chairs later this month.

Under state election law the Mayor, who dropped his Republican registration in 2007, has to get the support of most of the five GOP chairs to be on the Republican primary ballot in September.

Four of the five GOP chairs told WNYC they'll give the Mayor a hearing but say they're not currently in favour of giving he mayor the dispensation he needs.
