Ravitch Still Pushing His Recommendations

To build support for his plan to fund the MTA, commission chair Richard Ravitch has been riding the rails with Albany lawmakers. WNYC's Ilya Marritz reports.

REPORTER: Governor Paterson has given the legislature until the end of the month to decide whether to approve the Ravitch Commission's recommendations. The Governor has begun to circulate draft legislation. And Richard Ravitch has been taking members of the senate and assembly for rides on the subway.

RAVITCH: Normally when you make recommendations you deliver the report and you fade away. But I haven't faded away and I care a lot about this.

REPORTER: If nothing is done by April, the MTA will start making service cuts, including eliminating bus lines, closing some subway stations at night, and raising fares to as much as $3 a ride. For WNYC, I'm Ilya Marritz.
