McCain Blasts Obama's 'Sept. 10' Mindset

In a conference call today, Sen. John McCain advisers made some of their strongest comments to date criticizing Sen. Barack Obama on his approach to terrorism, with one McCain advisor accusing Obama of having a "Sept. 10” mindset.

In an interview with ABC-TV last night, Obama held up the trial of terrorists accused in the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center as a better way of prosecuting suspected terrorists than detaining them in Guantanamo.
But McCain advisors, including former CIA Director James Woolsey and former Navy Secretary and 9/11 commission member John Lehmann, fiercely disagreed. Woolsey called Obama’s comments “extremely dangerous” and “extremely naïve.” Lehmann said there’s a “good chance,” the 1993 trial, if handled differently could “have prevented 9/11.”
The Obama campaign says the “Bush McCain” strategy on terror has made the world less safe, and says McCain is “distorting” Obama’s position. For WNYC, I’m Andrea Bernstein.
