New York, NY —
The Giants' defensive end, Michael Strahan, is retiring, after fifteen years in the NFL.
The 36-year-old Strahan informed the front office this morning without telling his coaches and teammates.
Coach Tom Coughlin, reached by reporters after a team workout, said he was just finding out about it.
Strahan helped bring the Giants a Super Bowl victory last January, and is the NFL's active leader in sacks. He is walking away from a $4 million salary for the final year of his contract. He has long said he wants a job in television.
