Designers Peer Into Taxi’s Future

REPORTER: A new study, from the Design Trust for Public Space, also found that passengers want to pay for a cab ride with Metrocards and credit cards. But, according to the Design Trust's Deborah Marton, it isn't just about the ride but the driver too.

MARTON: The driver needs to earn a living wage and the driver needs to feel that he or she is accorded appropriate respect for the work that he or she is doing and an appropriate salary. And people who feel that they're employed in a dignified way and that they make enough money tend to provide better service.

REPORTER: The study also called for ride-sharing and more wheelchair-accessible cabs. The Taxi and Limousine Commission endorsed the report.
