Attorney General, EPA Face Off

New York's Attorney General's office says it will sue the EPA for repealing regulations that forced companies to publicly disclose the amount and type of chemicals they use, store and release into the environment.

REPORTER: New York, part of a coalition of 11 states, wants the reporting requirements reinstated. Special Deputy Attorney General for Environmental Protection Kathryn Kennedy says if companies aren't required to provide the information, they won't.

KENNEDY: It's certainly not acceptable to put communities at risk of further toxic pollution and to reduce public information about toxic pollution just to save a little paper.

REPORTER: Kennedy says there are 122 facilities in the state that are affected by the change. The EPA says it eases requirements for companies that can certify they haven't released any toxins into the environment.
