Gov. Spitzer Funds Food Pantries

City and state governments are stepping up to help struggling food pantries and soup kitchens. Yesterday the city announced it would contribute an extra million dollars to help the network of non-profits that serve the poor.
REPORTER: Today Governor Eliot Spitzer added another 5 million to the pot of money. Close to half of that will go to New York City. Aine Duggan, Vice President of the Food Bank for New York City says the additional funds will help families get through the holiday season:
DUGGAN: It is typically when families feel the pinch more because extra stress and pressure and expenses are placed on families at this time of the year.
REPORTER: But the money is a one shot deal. Duggan says the long term solution is for Washington lawmakers to pass a new Farm Bill that will increase federal funds for food banks and other non-profits that feed the poor.
