Big Week for Area Grocers

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

Today is expected to be the busiest day of the year at Hunts Points in the Bronx, as store owners get ready for Thanksgiving.

The massive wholesale produce market is a main distribution point for almost everything New Yorkers will eat at Thanksgiving dinner this Thursday. A spokesman for Hunts Point says this includes 80 million pounds of produce, 4 million pounds of sweet potatoes and 500,000 pounds of cranberries. The produce began arriving from wholesalers yesterday afternoon.
