Clinton Would Oppose License Plan

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

Senator Hillary Clinton joined a chorus of Democrats welcoming Governor Spitzer's decision to back off of his proposal to grant undocumented immigrants drivers' licenses.

In a debate earlier this month, Clinton said the plan "makes a lot of sense," but stopped short of endorsing it. Her Democratic and Republican rivals repeatedly criticized her aversion to the issue. Following Spitzer's announcement yesterday, Clinton said as president she would oppose any effort to give licenses to undocumented immigrants.

Besides Clinton, both Mayor Bloomberg and Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani also supported Spitzer's decision to drop the plan.
