Tappan Zee Jumper Rescued from Hudson

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

Firefighters say a man who jumped off the Tappan Zee Bridge has been rescued after a firefighter plunged into the chilly Hudson river to save him. Tarrytown fire chief Domenic Morabito says 911 callers reported seeing the man leap off the 157-foot-high span Saturday morning. A state trooper spotted the man in the river and helped guide a Fire Department boat to him. Firefighter Kelly Murphy went into the water to reach the man, and several crewmates helped get him on the boat and into an ambulance. Morabito says the man was alert but seriously hurt. No update on his condition is available.
