Spitzer Says Too Soon to Know When Demolition Will Resume

Negotiations about how to proceed with the decontamination and demolition of the former Deutsche Bank building continue among federal, state and city agencies.
REPORTER: The 130 Liberty Street site was the scene of a fatal seven-alarm fire earlier this month. The blaze destroyed the environmental remediation measures, and the federal Environmental Protection Agency wants the contaminated floors to be resealed. The site is the responsibility of the state's Lower Manhattan Development Corporation. Governor Spitzer says it's too soon to know exactly when the remediation will resume.
SPITZER: I don't want to set a false expectation as to when the building will be shrouded or when it will be encapsulated as it were. The only thing I would say the public should be aware of this, every test has come back some 700 test now, has come back negative.
REPORTER: According to the original timeline for the project the tower was supposed to be down by the end of this year. JP Morgan is committed to building a new 42-story office tower on the site which will also be the location of a below-ground vehicle security check point for the Freedom Tower complex.
