Preparations for a New School Year

As the first day of school quickly approaches, some parents and students are scrambling to get the information they need. There are 15 temporary registration centers around the city to assist kids who are new to the system, or selecting a new school.

REPORTER: Samantha Brown visited a Boerum Hill center to get help for her 11-year-old daughter, who was placed in the wrong Junior High school. She says after 3 hours, the problem wasn't fixed.

BROWN: Real horrible. You come here you bring all the documents they expect from you and when you come with the documentation, they are telling you that something is not completed or you are gonna have to wait until a waiver has been approved. It's frustrating. It's extremely frustrating.

REPORTER: A spokesperson for the Department of Education says the registration centers are set up to register students and recommends that parents who want to transfer their child should seek the assistance of their family advocate or call the district.
