Bovis Meeting Scheduled for Tonight

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

Tonight, downtown residents have their first chance to meet with Bovis Bond Lease, the contractor at the former Deutsche Bank building. Failures by Bovis may have led to the recent fire that claimed the lives of 2 firefighters.

REPORTER: A week later, a construction accident at the site injured 2 more firefighters. Also at tonight's meeting will be members of the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation and elected officials. Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver says the focus will be on subcontractors.

SILVER: Ultimately, LMDC and the state is the contracting agency. They have to be secure in knowing that they have a responsible contractor. Bovis has been a responsible contractor on a number of jobs around the city and state.

REPORTER: Silver did not say how long the site's cleanup will take, but that the latest environmental tests - all negative - were promising.
