Bloomberg Says Candidates Should Want to Help People

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

He wasn't talking about himself, of course but Mayor Bloomberg says people running for president should do so out of a desire to help people, and not out of ego-gratification.

REPORTER: Speaking on NPR's Morning Edition, Bloomberg insisted for the umpteenth time he wasn't interested in becoming president but he offered an explanation for why some people might want him to run.

BLOOMBERG: If I could contribute something to national process or political process, it is that if you work hard and are honest and explain to people what you wanna do, they'll sign on.

REPORTER: Bloomberg says if candidates are in it to hear a band play, "Hail to the Chief," they should go into the private sector instead, and get rich enough to hire their own band.
