Family of Man Injured by Steam Pipe Blast Want Independent Monitor

The family of a tow truck driver badly burned in last month's steam pipe explosion wants an independent monitor to oversee Con Ed's investigation into what caused the blast. Attorney Ken Thompson represents Gregory McCullogh's mopther. He says the utility can't be trusted to investigate itself. Con Ed says its review is being conducted by an independent engineering firm, with oversight from state and city officials.
Con Ed's investigation ground to a halt last week after a judge ordered a temporary restraining order to keep the utility from dismantling and testing equipment at the site.
McCullogh's lawyers sought the order, saying the utility company could be destroying evidence.
