FEMA Tours Brooklyn to Assess Possible Federal Relief Following Tornado

Officials with the Federal Emergency Management Agency today will tour parts of Brooklyn and Staten Island that bore the brunt of last Wednesday's powerful storm.

REPORTER: James McIntyre, a FEMA spokesman says the agency will be joined by state and local officials, who will determine whether New York should apply for federal assistance.

McINTYRE: Preliminary damage assessments will be done. That data will be turned over to the state emergency management system. The governor will get copies of that information and will use the data to apply for federal assistance."

REPORTER: The aid would allow hundreds of residents and business owners affected by the storm to apply for grants and low-interest loans.

NYC still refused most emergency aid requests to prevent eviction after Mamdani took office

In the first three months of the year, the city rejected about 75% of applications for One-Shot Deal emergency grants, which help tenants cover unpaid rent.
