Corzine Creates Immigration Panel

Governor John Corzine wants community members to get involved with immigration issues at the state level. He has signed an executive order creating a panel to study how to best integrate immigrants into local communities. New Jersey Public Advocate Ronald Chen will chair the panel.
CHEN: Things like education, access to healthcare, access to all sorts of government issues will be issues seen through the special filter of how they pertain to immigrants.
Chen says the group will also debate whether local law enforcement should be able to enforce federal immigration laws, and whether undocumented immigrants should have drivers licenses. The panel is made up of local elected officials, business owners, one law enforcement official, and immigrant advocates. It has just over a year to come up with recommendations.
