Parents Speak Out Against Arab Culture School

More than 100 Brooklyn parents attended a PTA meeting last night, grilling members of the Department of Education. The parents' children attend schools that are set to share space with the Khalil Gibran International Academy, a new school that will teach Arabic language and culture.

They say the school, scheduled to open at 345 Dean Street in Boerum Hill in September, would take up too much space and disrupt their programs. Over a week ago, the department scrapped its plan to put the school in the building that houses Public School 282, an elementary school in Park Slope, after parents objected.
