Bloomberg Delivers 9/11 Testimony
New York, NY —
Mayor Bloomberg has asked Congress to extend and expand funds to help monitor and treat people with 9/11-related health conditions. He testified to the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pension Committee that it's not clear how many people were exposed to potentially toxic material or how long it might take symptoms to appear.
BLOOMBERG: When people stop showing up saying "I’ve had no problems before, but all of a sudden I’ve been coughing" and the doctor’s saying, "This is clearly because of the work you did down in the recovery effort at 9/11."
REPORTER: The mayor also asked Congress to reopen the compensation fund for 9/11 victims, because he's worried the city could otherwise lose billions of dollars to lawsuits.
