Increased Security on Local Rails

Greater security patrols will be coming to Metro North and the Long Island Rail Road.

WNYC has learned that an announcement scheduled for today will detail how the MTA will team up with the Federal Transportation Security Agency and the NYPD to conduct the patrols. The MTA has been involved in discussions for several months about how to use federal dollars to beef up security on the commuter rails.

There have been growing concerns about rail security, in general, following bombings in Madrid and India.
