Metal Bats Up for Debate

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

Metal bats are up for debate again at the City Council's Youth Services Committee meeting later today.

If a ban is approved by the committee, it continues onto the general city council meeting on Wednesday. Supporters of the bill say metal bats are dangerous because baseballs are propelled faster and farther than when slammed by a wood bat.

Opponents of the metal bat ban, which would only affect high school baseball games in the city, say metal prepares players for college-level competition and that it's just as safe as wood.
