Jackson Criticizes School Funding

State aid for city schools is far less than what was expected from Albany, according to Mark Page, the Bloomberg administration's top budget expert. He told the City Council Finance Committee that Governor Spitzer's proposed budget is about $86 million less aid than the city had hoped for.
REPORTER: City Councilman Robert Jackson, a plaintiff in the successful Campaign for Fiscal Equity lawsuit to increase state aid to city schools, was disappointed.
JACKSON: They are giving us zero? Or close to zero? That's what I am hearing and if I was [talking] privately, I wouldn't say zero. I would say that something smells.
REPORTER: A spokesman for Governor Spitzer said the proposed budget committed $3.2 billion over the next four years.
