Long Island Gambling Ring Busted

Prosecutors say a Long Island probe led investigators to a drug smuggling ring - who made 17 arrests and seized of $1 million.

Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said 14 people were arrested on charges of promoting gambling, and three were arrested on charges of conspiracy to possess marijuana.

More arrests are expected. Spota said the betting ring focused on pro and college sports and involved electronic transfers to Costa Rica, generating $8.6 million a year. Spota said 4 of the men were trying to buy 100 pounds of pot for $300,000 when the plot was thwarted.
