Columbia to Discipline Students Who Disrupted Speech

A number of Columbia University students could face disciplinary measures for disrupting an October speech by the founder of the Minuteman Project.

REPORTER: Jim Gilchrist cancelled his talk after students from the Chicano Caucus and members of the International Socialist Organization stormed the stage. The Minuteman Project supports armed patrols along the US-Mexico border. The event had been organized by the Columbia University College Republicans, and the melee was caught on videotape.

Columbia president Lee Bollinger says several people not affiliated with the university who were involved in the altercation will no longer be allowed on campus. The university won't say how many students could be disciplined for breaking the university's rules of conduct. Officials also won't reveal how many people will be banned from campus.
